Crafting Love: From Free Lumber to One-of-a-Kind Keepsake Cutting Board

Storytelling thru Woodworking

A lot of songs tell a story but have you ever told a story with a project?  This is the tale of a love-filled marriage and free lumber.

We were informed about a woodworker who had passed away. His widow and her family expressed a heartfelt wish for us to have his collection of wood. Touched by their gesture, we felt compelled to create a thank you gift for the matriarch of the family.

We carefully sifted through the lumber, selecting a few particularly special pieces. After asking a few questions about the woodworker and his wife, we envisioned a fitting tribute: a serving board adorned with two bass inlays and a five-point star.

The couple shared a deep passion for bass fishing, and the wood came from her late husband's cherished stock. Placing two bass, one on each upper corner, represents the husband and wife, while the star in the middle symbolizes the central love and connection in their marriage. This serving board is more than just a gift; it's a meaningful piece that tells the beautiful story of their life together.

As woodworkers, telling stories like this through our projects is what we do. The pieces we make are never mass-produced junk - they’re handcrafted and full of meaning. The wood we use, the design we make, and the people who use it - all play a part in the unique stories each piece tells.

At Slab Stitcher, we help woodworkers tell better stories with our inlay system and over 30+ unique inlays designs. Try them out, and let us know: what story does your project tell?
